Oltre il Giardino – “Beyond the Garden” is a multimedia exhibition, composed by a digital archive and three touchscreen panels. These allow visitors to pinch, touch and swipe more
than 5000 photos, videos, and documents about the Basaglia’s Revolution.
It is organized into three sections:
1. the total institution (1902 – 1971): images and documents from the foundation of the psychiatric hospital until the arrive of Franco Basaglia
2. the negation of the total institution (1971 – 1980): the radical transformation of the psychiatric hospital during the direction of Franco Basaglia
3. the invention of a new institution, tailored to the needs of the patients, a process that continues nowadays
The exhibition “Beyond the Garden” is now open by reservation only and for a maximum of 4 people at a time, in order to ensure maximum safety during this Covid-19 emergency.
The exhibition will be closed from July 16 to August 3, 2025.
